The Things They Carried: Blog Prompt #3

1. Yeah it's pretty sad that Wes Hamilton never could remember who's his fellow soldiers names really were, all he could remember was their nicknames. When you join the military and meet brand new people you get this feeling for them that you can't get anywhere else. that's why everyone gets a nickname because it's a personal things and only those soldiers can understand it. Compared to Wes Hamilton and his soldiers with the book is really similar, they all have that kind of bond. But i believe in the book Tom knows everybody by their real names. tp:https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm9_E9jGOoKVvSld53glbgE3u5LpMfSQ8sF6_-6kYEPjB-fRunFwm-czHaheWJud0Q4tFybBOegd2SMQuAP9Lem-edKTkzcdOoFNhaDe2V_YMIQq__plZpC73HASlrnhdsxufzxmPn0Og/s1600/band+of+brothers+04.jpg

2. In the book Tom is trying to tell the reader that women can fight in the war but i disagree strongly! I wouldn't want a women next to me with a rifle pretending she is fit for the job. If anything she should be behind the scenes doing the more complicated jobs like makes care packages for us or being a medic because i would say it would be very soothing for a girl to patch me up if i was injured. I would keep myself alive just for that to happen. http://fpstribe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Call-of-Duty-Black-Ops.jpg

3. I think Tom telling fake stories is stupid because nobody wants to hear a fake story, they all wanna know what happened and all the details. Like this book would be a lot better if he would talk less about how he felt in the war and talked more about what he did and the details into it to make it intense and the reader wanting to read even more. Like when he tells fake stories I find it useless to me but when he tells true stories I get really into it and wanna keep reading. The story is much more epic and a lot bigger impact in what I think. http://fpstribe.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Call-of-Duty-Black-Ops.jpg

When reading "The Things They Carried" Tom talks a lot of true and not true things. When he talks about the not true things I find it a big distraction when reading the book, it just makes me not care about it. If he were to not do that I would get more into the book a lot easier.

The Things They Carried Prompt #2

The other things the soldiers are carrying would be mental and emotional things. Every single one of the soldiers know for a fact that they themselves are scared out of their minds but they don't want anyone to know so they hide it and fight for their lives. Because of this they don't show their fear because the other soldiers will think he will get them killed or something. They also carry the thoughts of what they have back home like Cross. Cross always is thinking about his girl back home and how he wants to tie her to a bed and touch her knee all night long.

Cross is one of the main characters in that is talked about because he is the leader of the platoon and his job is to keep them all safe. What Cross does while he and his men are humping is think about leaving this war and going to his girl so he can love her and do his little weird sex fantasies with her. I predict that Cross is gonna screw up even more like he did with Lavender, Cross was thinking about his girl Martha when he should have been protecting his men right when Lavender got shot. Cross is gonna mess up even more later on and hopefully will get his game going.

How this book and the movie we watched relates is that they both are getting to the point that the Vietnam war was bad and should have ended a lot sooner than it did. The men in the book we are reading are pretty much miserable and all truly don't want to be there. The Pentagon Papers helped the men get out of there, it all relates but a saying of that those men don't need to be in there doing all those horrible things.

snap your fingers

I would go some place hot where there are a lot of hot chicks willing to do anything with me. A good place for that to happen could be California or Hawaii, i'll make sure to get extra ripped before I snap my fingers.

The Great Gatsby: Symbolism in Chapters 1-4

The most interesting character in my opinion would be Gatsby. He is very quite and likes to study people behind the scenes, at the party he would just sit there and watch people drink alcohol and dance. He also doesn't even drink alcohol when everyone at that period of time did. He gets these phone calls a lot from Chicago which I think is a foreshadow of him having to do something with the prohibition. He symbolizes the color yellow, shows that he is a nice guy but may not show it all the time in actions but by himself he does.

The Great Gatsby: Characters in Chapter 1

Nick: He grew up in a respectable Chicago family and went to Yale, he likes literature and considers himself one of those "limited" specialists known as a "well-rounded man".Daisy: Very attractive lady but seems like her husband doesn't like her
Tom: Big guy that has a wife, Daisy but is having an affair with her without her knowing.
Jordan: Jordan is possibly the least important of all the major characters in the book, yet she provides an important contrast to Daisy Buchanan

I think the beginning of the book is hard to comprehend but we went through it and it' a bit more interesting than if we hadn't of. It seems like a book worth listening to in class and I'm excited to read the rest.

Anticipating The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby is gonna be a weird book in my opinion. To what I've herd from others they say that it's very confusing and gotta pay a lot of attention. Gatsby is gonna be a very interesting guy and important to the story line. I think he is gonna be some part of the whole prohibition cause. Something has to revolve around it and it's obviously gonna be him.

Nature vs. Self-Reliance

I remember talking about this in class and I had a very strong opinion about the essay "Nature". Emerson believed that nature was like us, we all were the same and had souls. I do not have the same opinion with Emerson. I believe that God made humans and animals but not the same, that humans had souls and animals were just there for us to enjoy. Animals do not have souls and nature is for our own pleasure of food and sight seing.
